Police are pursuing a miraa van driver, after hitting and killing more than 165 sheep leaving the livestock farmer counting losses.

It is reported that only five sheep survived but some with critical injuries.

The sheep owner Barisa Bapesa says the accident happened in Gamba area on the Lamu-Garsen road, as the sheep were crossing the road heading to their grazing corridors.

Bapesa says the driver of the miraa vehicle sped off after the accident leaving him counting huge losses.

He is now calling on the police to help him trace the driver and compensate for his dead sheep, as he says the vehicle was headed to Lamu from Meru to deliver the miraa.

Irungu Macharia, the Lamu county commissioner, said the police are pursuing the miraa driver and cautioned motorists against reckless driving.
